Some
appear to believe Oromo is the source of the movements for separation and see
Oromia as a hot pot promoting such tendencies. To be honest, most of us are
afraid that one day Oromia may go a nation state.
Do we ever take time to ask
why do some in Oromia tend to think so? It is due to the racist past that
considers Amhara culture is the best and the way out for our unity.
I
don’t mean necessarily such racist view pushes us to think so. Despite
whatsoever, We can think that the problem is not with the unity and the
diversity we in Ethiopia happen to brace; Every individual has the natural freedom
to think so as long as he isn’t there to abide by herd thinking.
Yet those in
power think the unity of this county and its people better maintained in such bad
ethnic approaches.
What we need to struggle to vanish is simply that racist though pattern and they system that promotes it.
Besides,
some seem to think Amhara is attacked while the problem was with the leadership
than with the Amhara people. Labeling such people as irresponsible is wrong.
They do have a point to make too. In some areas in this country Amhara origin
people have been targets for some racist vengeance.
Yet
still though Amhara as a nation was not and is not responsible for what
happened, we can’t deny that various nations in this country have been pushed
aside for being who they are. They have been denied the right to use their language
and culture.
Now
we can see there was and is still something wrong in our thought system. Though
we claim we all are equal we don’t act like that in various circumstances. That
triggers the same question we raised yesterday.
The
thing is to form a system in which all races are respected and allowed to use
their language and culture as they find it proper while they don’t infringe in
the rights of other races in the country.
Most
of the debates we involve in are ones that we do fearing something bad happens
if this nation follows a particular school of thought or party ideology.
The
best thing to do is to forget our allegiance to parties and try to make fruitful
discussions to make our now far better than the past we know and the conspiracy
theories we often tend to enjoy.
