Don't Ever Be Optimist or Pessimist, Just Believe in Possibilities!!!

Heap of Blame and Criticism doesn't Necessarily Form Credible Facts.

I see in Ethiopian political discourse and in the media polarized views: heap of appreciation unwilling to see the tangible failures, and heap of blame game unwilling to admit success stories.

To begin with, I am not fond of those who like to appreciate everything the ruling party does. It is quite clear that the ruling party has shortcomings and that is why, come every appraisal, it claims to have mistakes it recognizes over its assessment sessions.

At the same time there are some who indulge to naming and shaming failures of the ruling party in this country every time they pick their pen to write and anytime they open their mouth. Honestly what I see in such situations is the very problem is the one with such downer views. No international democratic experience gives us a democratic system with no flaws. If it is to name and shame bad things, you can go straight to America and find thousands of them. There is no problem to narrate challenges. Challenges are there. What we lack is heroes who solve them.

The world in no time has recorded a hero who speaks of pains of public. It is not in telling the descriptions of the pains that we find the solutions. On the other hand, take any hero the world has ever admired for its accomplishments, she doesn't solve every challenge; he only solves the most important problem that he or she sets as the top most agenda of their struggle. We don't need a hero and  leader to be right in everything. We need a leader to find solution at least to one important problem.

Take, for instance, Nelson Mandela  most appreciate Madiba for his outstanding struggle against apartheid. He is also admired for his reconciliation between the white and the aboriginals in South Africa. Look here: Is South African black poor better off after nearly two decades in power of ANC? No. The difference that happens there through Mandela and his party so far hasn't changed a lot the life of Black South Africans. Yet we can't deny Nelson Mandela, otherwise known as Madiba, the recognition that he deserves for what he has managed to change there.

By the same token, here in our country, why do we expect our leaders to be error free while we know they are human and it is normal to err for a human being. If it is not deliberate blindness and denial to give recognition for those who deserve it I can't find one good reason to do so.

Usually, there is a claim that ETV and Ethiopian Radio tell the good stories the government often manages to resolve. It is true. Of course, I understand it is right to demand ETV to produce news and stories that draw lessons from failures and intentional wrong doings that happen to make personal gains out of it. Lessons can also be learned from failures so long as they are framed in a way they become learn-able.

But how about, the Private Media and many others including members of the opposition who only see failures every where they turn their eyes for data? How about those who only can appreciate the loose buttons even in the hugely successful accomplishments? I know the way is not in being always a yes person or a No person. It is in the middle: being able to see tangible failures while you support it, and being able to see successes while, one under your investigation, is your opponent. I think balance happens here. Integrity to what is relevant plus useful, and not to ideology comes here.

Most of the time we tend to say negative if we once determine somebody is on the wrong side of the fence, despite the correct content of his action, and tend to say positive if once we see someone on the right side of the fence. Let's at least admit the fence we draw to determine wrong from right is not natural; rather it is personal; and, of course, the one who think to be right could be wrong. How could one be that stubborn to see the story of the other person with open heart putting his prior judgement on the sidelines.

It is always good to be balanced and matured to see separate things on separate measures than condemning what is happening now based on your prior judgment. I am not only saying this time the person may be right; I am also saying last time you may be the one who is wrong. Nature doesn't make anyone of us perfectly sure of anyone's wrong doing. What nature does is allow everyone to have the opportunity to proof its claims.

Why don't we, Ethiopians, try and make adjustments with ourselves to make sure that we give everything and everybody a chance to proof their position every time they come with any proposition?

The thing that I know for sure is, how far good we are to heap massive appreciations on something we like we can't erode the inherent failures and the eventual wrong doings so long as they are there. Again, how far we be good enough in erecting piles of stories of failures and blame, there is no way for us to kill the good deeds of any particular group.

What is at stake in such circumstances is not the nature of the thing we talk about; rather what is at stake is the integrity of one who does such irrational judgments. Wrongs and rights are always there. What brings them out to the surface to look for solution is balanced character that search for what has happened despite its position.

Indeed, someone who is interested in the solutions than where the blame and the appreciation goes can make a difference unlike those that further blur the scenario with more mud than searching lenses. Don't ever be optimist or pessimist, just believe in possibilities. I believe it is worth it. See you in another piece. So long friends!!!!

የተቃዋሚው ጎራ የትግል ታርጋ

ተቃዋሚ ፓርቲዎች ችግሮችንና  መነሻቸውን ተንትነው መፍትሄዎችን ተልመው እንዲነሱ ይጠበቃል።  የትግበራ ስትራቴጂያቸውን እና ታክቲኩን ቀይሰው በዚህ አይነቱ የበሰለ ፕሮግራም ለውድድር የሚቀርቡም መሆን ፓርቲ የመሆን ግዴታ ነው። ዲስፕሊን ያላቸው ብቁ አባላትና ደጋፊዎችም ማፍራት ለነገ እሚታለፍ ስራ አይሆንም።በዚሁ ቁመናቸው ብርታት ምርጫዎችን በስኬት የሚሳተፉ ይሆናሉም ተብሎ ይገመታል።

በኛ ሁኔታ ተቃወሚዎች የኔ ቢጤው መንደገኛ የሚያነሳውን የተቆራረጠ እዚህም እዚያም የሚታዩ የዋናውን ችግር ምልክቶች ከመተረክ እና ለሁሉም ችግር ያው የተለመደውን አስፕሪን እና መለጣጠፊያ ከማቅረብ በዘለለ ይህ ነው የሚባል ዘላቂ መፍትሄ ማቅረብ የሚያስችል ብስለትና መለኝነት የማይታይባቸው ናቸው።

ለሁሉም ችግር ወደብ ስለለለ፣ ብዝሀነታችን ህገመንግስታዊ እውቅና ስለተሰጠው፣ ኢህአዴግ ስላላሰራን፣ ብዝሀነት አንድነትን ስለሚሸረሽር የሚሉ በርግጥም ጫማችን የትጋ እንደቆረቆን በቅጡ የማያውቅ ተቃዋሚ ነው ያለን።

እንዳለመታደል ሆኖ የኛ ተቃዋሚ ጫማችን ስለጠበበን እግራችን ይቆረጥ የሚል ነው:: ህብረበሄራዊ ማንነታችንና ኢትዮጵያዊው ጠንካራ አንድነት የተሰጠው ብያኔ ስለማይመጥነው በደም ለከበረና በነጻነት ለሚያንጸባርቅ ታሪኩና በመከባበርና በመቻቻል ለዘለቀው ብዝሀነቱ የሚመጥን የማንነት ጫማ ሰፋ እና አመር ብሎ ቢዘጋጅለትና ህገመንግስታዊ እውቅና ቢሰጠው የምር እውነቱን ማወቅና ለአኩሪው ማንነቱ የሚመጥን ህገመንግስታዊ እውቅና መስጠት እንጂ ሌላ አለመሆኑን መረዳት በተገባ ነበር።

እንዲያውም ህገመንግስታዊ እውቅናው ብዝሀነትን ተረድቶ ተቻችሎ በመኖር ረገድ ከመሪዎቹ ለላቀው ህዝብ ለዘመናት ላቆየው ህብረብሄራዊ ማንነቱ የቀረበ ገጸ በረከት ነው። ህብረብሄራዊነታችንን ዛሬ በልኩ አክብረነዋል፤ አስከብረነዋልም፤ ለአንዴና ለመጨረሻ ግዜም ብዝሀነትን በችግርነት የሚረዳው ፖለቲካ ተንድዋል።

ብዝሀነት የአንድነት ጸር አደለም። አንድነትም ህብረብሄራዊነትን አይጨፈልቅም። እንዲያውም ብዝሀነታችን ቀለም አንድነታችን አቅም ይሆኑናል።ብዝሀነታችንን በዚህ መልኩ በውብ ግብአትነት የማይረዳ ፖለቲካ ከጅምሩ ፈተናውን ስለወደቀ፤ ሲጀመር የሚመራውን ህዝብ ስላላወቀ የቤት ስራውን ጨርሶ መምጣት ይኖርበታል።

ቀድሞ የተሰፋልን የአገራዊ አንድነትና ህብረብሄራዊ ብያኔ ተፈጥሮአችንን የሚክድ ስለሆነ የሆነውን የሚመስል እኛነታችንን በቅጡ የሚገልጽ አዲስ ብያኔ ይበጅልን ሲባል የማይመስለን አሮጌው ምስላችን ራሱ ካልቀጠለ አገር ይናዳል ይላሉ ተቃዋሚዎች። እቺ አገር የመሪዎቹዋ ብዝሀነትን የመረዳት ችግር እንደተጠበቀ ሆኖም በመቻቻል መኖሩዋን ዘንግተው። ህዝብ ስንት በደሎችን የተሻለውን ነገን ተሰፋ አድርጎና ሌሎቹ ኢትዮጵያዊ ብሄሮች አደጋ የማይፈጥሩበት መሆኑን ጠንቅቆ ስለሚረዳ የመሪዎቹን ባህሪ ቸል ብሎ በመከባበር መኖሩ መረሳት የለበትም።

ግዜው ደርሶ የአብራኩ ክፋዮች ተፈጥሮውን የሚያውቅ ብዝሀነቱን የሚጠነቅቅ እውቅና እንዲበጅ እድሉን ሲያመቻቹ  በወግና በባህሉ በቁዋንቁዋና በልማዱ በላቀ ሁኔታ ለመጠቀም አላቅማም። ነባሩን ማንነቱን በአግባቡ የሚረዳው እና ህገመንግስታዊ ጥበቃ ያደረገለት ምርጫም ትክክል መሆኑን ዛሬ ከሀያ አመቱ ጅምር ግን ጉልህ ስኬቱ ይረዳዋል። 

ሌላው ቢቀር ባለፉት 20 አመታት የሙዚቃው ኢንደሰትሪ በተለያዩ ቁዋንቁዋዎችና ባህሎች መተዋወቅ ምን ያህል እንደጎመራ ማየት ይቻላል። ትልቁ ነገር የምንከተለው አሰራር ይዘትና ትክክለኝነት እንጂ ያው ይዘት በተለያየ ቁዋንቁዋ መገለጹ ምንም ተጽእኖ የሌለው መሆኑን መረዳት መቻሉ ነው። ከሳይንሱ እንጂ ቁምነገሩ ከመባያው ቁዋንቁዋ አይደለምና። የፌደራል የስራ ቁዋንቁዋ አስፈላጊነት እንደተጠበቀ ሆኖ ህዝብ አፍ መፍቻ ቁዋንቁውን ከመጠቀም የሚቀል የተሻለ አመራጭ የለውም።

ተቃዋሚው እንዲህ ያለውንም ተፈጥሮአችንን መረዳት ተስኖት ይህን በሚክድ መደናበር ከተፈጥሮም ጋር የሚላተመው ለተቃውሞ የቆመ የፖለቲካ ቡድን እንጂ ለችግሮች  ሁነኛ መፍትሄ ማፈላለግ የማይችል ሀይል በመሆኑ ነው።

ይህንን ቁመናውን ከማንም በላይ ራሱ ተቃዋሚው ስለሚረዳ ምርጫ በመጣ ቁጥር ገና ምርጫው ሳይካሄድ ተጭበርብሩዋል በሚል ይከሳል። አገራዊ ተቁዋሞቹ ምርጫ ማካሄድ አይችሉም በሚል ይለፍፋል። በርግጥ ይህ የሚሆነው ተቃዋሚው ያለበት ሁኔታ ከዚህ በዘለለ በሳል አማራጭ የፖለቲካ መፍትሄ ማቅረብ የሚያስችለው ባለመሆኑ ነው።

የተቃዋሚው ጎራ ያለፉት አመታት መንገድ ማሳካት የቻለው ነገር ቢኖር በገዛ ባህሪውና ተግባሩ ራሱን እያቀጨጨ እና እያከሰመ መሄዱ ነው። ከገዛ ሂደቱ ትምህርት መውሰድ የማይችል መሆኑንም ከተግባርና ከባህሪው ማንም ሊታዘብ የሚችለው ነው።

በርግጥ የተቃዋሚው ጎራ ጠንካራ መሆን ለዴሞክራሲው ስር መስደድ ለጠንካራ ተቁዋማት መፈጠር እና ለምርጫ ስርአቱ እየተጠናከረ መሄድ ፋይዳ ስለሚኖረው ነው የተቃዋሚውን ጎራ ስህተቶች ለማሳየት ጥረት የሚደረገው። የገዥውን ፓርቲ ያህል ገንቢ ሚና ተቃዋሚው ተጫውቶ ቢሆን ኖሮ አፍራሽ ሚና በተጫወተበትም ሁኔታ የአፍሪካ ታይገር ኢኮኖሚ መባል የቻለውና  በማህበራዊ ዘርፍ የላቀ ስኬት ያስመዘገበው ህዝብና መንግስት ምንያክል የተሻለ ስኬት ባስመዘገቡ ነበር።

ይሁን እንጂ ተቃዋሚው ሚናውን መወጣት ቢሳነውም በአገር ተስፋ አይቆረጥምና ህዝብና ገዥው ፓርቲ በመተባበር ማስመዝገብ የቻሉት ለውጥ ባለፉት አስር አመታት አገሪቱን በፍጥነት ከሚያድጉ አገሮች ተርታ ያሰለፈ ነው። 

ተቃዋሚዎቻችን ታርጋቸውን ቢቀይሩ፣ በምርጫው ማግስት የሚፈርሱ ግንባሮችን ከሚያቁዋቁሙ ይልቅ መታገያ ግቦቻቸውን እና ዲስፕሊናቸውን ቢከልሱና ሁነኛ አማራጭ ቢሆኑ አገር ብዙ ትጠቀማለች!!!!

አገራዊ ለውጥ ተቃዋሚዎችና ኢህአዴግ

የስራውን ውጤት ያለማንም ጣልቃ ገብነት ከጅምሩ ማጣጣም የቻለው ህዝብ በቅጡ በተደራጀ መልኩ ባይመራም ከሰማንያ አራት ጀምሮ እድገት ማጣጣም ጀምሮዋል፡፡ ተቃዋሚው ከሀዲ ስለነበር እንዲያውም ጨለመ እንኩዋንሰ ሊነጋ በሚል ስብከት ተጠምዶ የነበረ ቢሆንም፡፡

በሂደት ኢህአዴግ ፍልስፍናዎቹ እየተፈተኑ ጥቅል የአመራር እሳቤዎቹ ተጨባጭ ፖሊሲዎች ሆነው ብቅ ካሉበት ከ1994 ዓም ጀምሮ ግን አገር የተለየ ጎዳና ያዘች፡፡ ህዝብ ለውጡን ማጣጣም የሚችልበት እድል እንዳይኖር የተቃዋሚው ጎራ ጥቁር ጫጫታ በአንድ ወቅት እንዲያውም ወደ ነውጥነት ተመንዝሮ ሰላማችንን ክፉኛ የተፈታተነው ቢሆንም፡፡ 

በአንድ በኩል የአገር ውስጥ ተቃዋሚው ጭፍን ስብከት በልላ በኩል የውጪው ኒዮ ሊበራል ሀይል የኔን መስመር ካልተከተላቹህ በሚል ግትርነት የሚፈጥሩት ሰባራ ሰንካላ ስም ማጥፋት አገራችን በከባድ መስዋእትነት የጀመረችውን የልማት መንገድ ፈታኝ አድርጎት ነበር፡፡

በርግጥም ኢህአዴግ ግዜ የሚፈታውን ለግዜ ትቶ አይኑን ከተስፋ ሰጪ የልማት ስራዎቹ ሳይነቅል ተጉዝዋል፡፡ ፈረንጆቹ በየመንገዱ በሚጮህ ውሻ ላይ ሁሉ ድንጋይ እምትወረውር ከሆነ እምትሄድበት አትደርስም እንደሚሉት ሰዶ ማሳደድ አይኖርም በሚል ጽኑ እምነት ትኩረቱን በልማት ማፋጠንና ሰላም ማስጠበቅ ስራው ላይ አድርጉዋል፡፡ ይሄ ጉዞ እንደማንኛውም ፖለቲካዊና ኢኮኖሚያዊ ሂደት ከፊቱ አቀበትና ቁልቁለት ያለበት ዛሬም በደረስንበት ደረጃ የሚፈተን ቢሆንም ከባዱን ግዜ ግን ይበልጥ ተምሮ ልማታዊ ልምዶቹን ቀምሮ ባለመቶ ፍሬዎቹን ሸክፎ ተሻግሮታል፡፡

አሁን አገር አላደገም የሚለው ተረት ሰሚ አጥቶ እድገታችን በየቢሮው ሹማምንት የሚቀቅሉት መረጃ (ኩክድ ዴታ) አለመሆኑን ህዝብ ከተጨባጩ ለወጥ አረጋግጡዋል፡፡ ኩክድ ዴታን እንደ ቃላት ክምችታችን እድገት ማመላከቻ መውሰድ ቢቻልም እውነታውን ማሳየት ግን አይችልም፡፡ ለዉጡ እና ፈጣኑ አመታዊ እደገታችን አንዳንድ ፖሊሲዎቻችንን ለማይቀበሉት እንደነ አለም ባንክ እና አይ ኤም ኤፍ በመሳሰሉም አለምአቀፋዊ ተቁዋማት ተመስክሮለታልና፡፡

እድገታችን እውን መሆኑ የሚታወቀው በነጭ ቆዳ የተመሰከረ ሲሆን በመሆኑ አደለም የነዚህን ተቁዋማት ምስክርነት የምንጠቅሰው፤ ይልቅም አገራዊ ተቁዋሞቻችንን ቁጥር ፈብራኪ አድርገው ለሚያዩዋቸው ወገኖች እውነታውን ከሆነ የሚፈልጉት ቢያንስ ቢያንስ ከሚያመልኩዋቸው የነጮቹ ሪፖርት እንዲያዩትም በማሰብ ነው፡፡ ችግሩ አለማቀፍ ተቁዋማቱም ቢሆኑ ስኬቶቻችንን የመሰከሩ ቀን ያው የተለመደ ፕሮፖጋንዳ ነው መባሉ ነው፡፡ የተቃዋሚው አጀንዳ ለውጥ ሳይሆን ማጠልሸት ብቻ ስለሆነ፡፡  

የባለፉትን ዘጠኝ አመታት የአለም ባንክን የኢኮኖሚ ሪፖርት ወስደን ስንገመግም አገራችን በ10.6 በመቶ ማደጉዋን ብቻ ሳይሆን አገራዊ ተቋሞቻችን ልማቱን በተመለከተ የሚሰጡን መረጃ እውነት እንደነበራና ይህም እምነት የሚጣልበት ተቁዋማዊ አሰራር እና አመራር ያላቸው መሆኑን እንደሚያመላክትም ነው፡፡ ከማደግም በላይ የሚበልጠውንና ነገ እንደምናስመዘግብ በርግጠኝነት  የምናልማቸዉን ትላልቅ የልማት ስራዎች በብቃትና በታማኝነት መወጣት የሚችሉ ተቁዋማት እንዳሉን ያረጋገጠም ጭምር ነው፡፡

እቺ አገር ገጽታዋ ይቀየራል የሚለውን ምኞታችንን ተሻግረን ገጽታዋ በፍጥነት እየተቀየረ መሆኑን ታዝበናል፡፡ ባለፈው አስር አመት ባስመዘገበችው እድገትዋ የአፍሪካ ታይገር ኢኮኖሚ መባል ችላለች፡፡ የአለም ባንክም በቅርቡ ባወጣው ሪፖርት ኢትዮጲያ ከቻይናዉያኑ ጋር የሚቀራረብ ከደቡብ ኮሪያና እና ታይዋን የቀድሞ ፈጣን እድገቶች የሚልቅ ባለ 10.6 በመቶ እድገት ከእኤአ 2004 ጀምሮ ባሉት ዘጠኝ አመታት ማከናወን መቻሏን አትቷል፡፡ ይሄ በታታሪ ህዝብና በጠንካራ መሪ ድርጅት የሚገኝ እንጂ አጋጣሚ አደለም፡፡

አገራችን የምትከተለው እድገት ምስራቅ ኤስያውያኑ ፈጣን ለውጥ ካመጡባቸው መስመሮች ጋር እንደሚመሳሰልም የአለም ባንክ ሪፖርት ያመለክታል፡፡ ስለ እድገቱ ተመሳሳይ ምስክርነት አይ ኤም ኤፍ እና ዘ ኢኮኖሚስት ይሰጣሉ፡፡ አገራዊ ለውጦቻችን በማጠልሸት የሚደፈቁበት እድል ፈጦ በወጣዉ ውጤት ለአንዴና ለመጨረሻ ግዜ ተደፍቁዋል፡፡ ነገ በሚመዘገቡ ትላልቅ ስራዎቻችን ደግሞ ይበልጥ ይደምቃል፡፡

ከላይ በቀረቡት መነሻዎች የተቃዋሚውን ጎራ ትርክቶች እንዳስ፡-

በመጀመሪያዎቹ አስር አመታት አገሪቱ የምትመራባቸውን ህጋዊና ተቁዋማዊ መደላድሎች በመፍጠር ስራ ተጠምዶ የነበረው ኢህአዴግ በሁዋለኞቹ አስር አመቶች ደግሞ የፖሊሲዎቹንና ተቁዋማዊ ለዉጦቹን ትክክለኝነት የሚያረጋግጡለት ጅምር ውጤቶች ማጣጣም የቻለ ቢሆንም፡

ተቃዋሚዎቹ ያለመታከት ሀገራዊ የልማት አቅማችንን ከኤርትራ ወደብ ጋር በማያያዝ አንገታችን ተቆረጡዋልና አክትሞልናል የሚል ዝማሬ ሲያቀነቅኑ ነበር፡፡ 

ወደብ በተጨባጭ ሁነኛ የልማት አቅም አለመሆኑ ቢታወቅም በዚህ ታርጋ ግን ቀላል ግምት የማይሰጠው ማምታታት ችለዋል፡፡ ይሁንና ልማታዊ አቅማችን ወደብ ሳይሆን ልማትን መተለምና መፈጸም የሚችል መሪ ድርጅት እና የፈጠራ ብቃቱ በቅጡ የተገነባ ሰብአዊ አቅም መሆኑን በማያወላዳ መንገድ ዛሬ ላይ በተግባራችን አረጋግጠናል፡፡ ትላንትናም በቃልና በመጻፍ የታገልነው መሆኑ እንደተጠበቀ ሆኖ፡፡

እንደሚሰብኩን ወደብ ሁነኛ ልማታዊ አቅም ሆኖ ቢሆን ኖሮ በውቅያኖስ ዙሪያ ያሉ ስንት የአፍሪካና የተቀረው አለም አገሮች ፈጣን ለውጥ ማስመዝገብ በቻሉ ነበር፡፡ የለሙት ሀገሮች ልማታዊ አቅም የለማና ትጉህ ሰብአዊ አቅማቸውና ይህንኑ በአግባቡ መምራት የሚችል ፖለቲካዊ መዋቅር ያላቸው መሆኑ ነው፡፡

አንዴ በተገኘሁበት ስብሰባ ላይ አንድ ጃፓናዊ ፕሮፌሰር ያሉትን ላንሳ፡- አንድ ኢትዮጵያዊ ዶ/ር ስለለውጥ ግብአቶች ሲያወሩ ፋይናንስ፣ የተፈጥሮ ሀብት በተጨማሪነትም የሰው ሀይል… እያሉ ማብራሪያቸውን ሲቀጥሉ ላስቁሞት ዶ/ር የሰው ሀይል ተጨማሪ አደለም የሰው ሀይል ወሳኙና ሁነኛው የልማት አቅም ነው፡፡ ሌሎቹ ይጨመራሉ፡፡ ጃፓንን እንውሰድ የተፈጥሮ ሀብት የላትም ግን ከና ከጥዋቱ የልማቱ ዋነኛ ምሰሶ መሆኑ እየተነገረው የሚያድግ ጠንካራና የፈጠራ ክህሎቱ የዳበረ የሰው ሀይሉዋን ተጠቅማ ሌሎቹን በሂደት እየፈጠረች ነው ያደገችው፡፡ ዋናው ከጃፓን የሚወሰደውም ልምድ ይሄው ነው ማለታቸውን አስታውሳለሁ፡፡

ኢህአዴግ በተግባር ወሳኙ የልማት ሀይል የፈጠራ ብቃቱ የጎለበተ የሰው ሀይል መሆኑን ገና ከጠዋቱ በመደምደም ይህንኑ የልማት አቅም ሳያሰልስ ለማነጽ ሰፊ ጥረት አድርጉዋል፡፡ ወደብን የተመለከተ ነገር በተነሳ ቁጥር አገልግሎት ነው እንገዛዋለን ነበር መልሱ፡፡ ወደብ ቢኖረው የሚጠላ የለም ከሌለ ደግሞ ወይ አሰብ እያሉ ማላዘን ሳይሆን ቁምነገሩ ዋናዉን የልማት ሞተር አንቀሳቅሶ ልማቱን ማንደርደር ነው ፡፡

ኢህአዴግ እንዳለውም አሰብ እኛ ባለመጠቀማችን የግመል ማጠጫ ነው የሆነው፡፡ ወደቡን ለማጣጣል አደለም:: በቁምነገሩ የሚሸጥ ያመረትነው ወጪ ምርት ሲኖር የምናስገባው ለልማታችን የምንሻው  ግብአት ሲኖር መሆኑን ለማመላከት ነው፡፡ የኤርትራ መንግስትና ተቃዋሚዎቹ እንደዘመሩት ኤርትራም አንገት እንዳልሆነች እኛም ራስ አልባ በድኖች እንዳልሆንን በተጨባጭ ባለፉት 20 አመታት ባስመዘገብናቸው ሁለንተናዊ ለውጦች ተግባራዊ ትምህርት ተወስዶበታል፡፡

እንደተባለው ወደብ ይቀይር ቢሆን ብዙ ሳንርቅ ኬንያ አስገምጋሚ ለውጥ ባመጣች ነበር፡፡ ሌሎቹም በምስራቅና ምእራብ አፍሪካ ያሉ አገሮች በለሙ ነበር፡፡ የለሙ አገሮች ኢኮኖሚያዊ አቅሞቻቸውን በቅጡ የተገነዘቡ ናቸው- አሜሪካዉያኑ ቅድሚያ የወሰዱበት የፈጠራ ክህሎታቸው፤ ጀርመኖቹ መሺኖች የማምረት አቅማቸው፤ ቻይናውያኑ ራሳቸውን የማኒፋክቸሪንግ ማእከል ማድረጋቸው፤ ጃፓናውያኑም ተመሳሳዩን ከቻይና ቀድመው መፈጸማቸው ነው ፡፡ ሌሎችም የለሙና በመልማት ላይ ያሉ አገሮች ሁነኛ የልማት አቅም የለማ የሰው ሀይል መሆኑን መረዳት ይገባል፡፡

ይሄ ያጡትን ለማጣጣል በማሰብ የሚደረግ መዋተት አደለም፡፡ ማንኛውም ልማታዊ አቅሞችን በተመለከተ መረጃዎችን የሚያገላብጥ ሰው ሊደርስበት የሚችል ሀቅ ነው፡፡ ይሄ ልምድ በተሳከረና ሚዛኑን በሳተ ግምቱ በወደብ ስም ኢትዮጵያን አንበረክካለሁ ብሎ ሲያስብ ለነበረው የኤርትራ መንግስትም የማያዳግም ትምህርት ሰጥቷል፡፡ በቀጠናው በርካታ ወደብ ከመኖሩ አንጻር የተሻለ አገልግሎት በተወዳዳሪ ዋጋ ማቅረብ ያለባትና በጋራ ተጠቃሚነት መርህ መስራት ያለበት አገልግሎቱን በማቅረብ ጥቅም የሚያገኘውም ጭምር መሆኑን ያመላከተም ነው፡፡

ነዳጅ እና ማዕድን አልባው ኢኮኖሚ ያለወደብ ባለ 10.6 በመቶ እድገት ያሰመዘገበውና ለሚቀጥሉት አመታትም በዚሁ ጥንካሬው እንደሚቀጥል የሚነገርለት ልማታዊ አቅሞቹን ለይቶ በትጋት ስለሰራ መሆኑን መገንዘብ ይቻላል፡፡

አገር የሚከፋፍለው ጭራቅ የት ጠፋ!

አገር ይበትናል፣ ህዝብ ያባላል፣ ኢትዮጵያዊ አንድነትን ያጠፋል የሚባለው ፓርቲ ምን ውሀ በላው?! አገር ይኸው 20 አመት ይበልጥ በመንገድ፣ በቴሌኮም፣ በመብራት፣ በንግድ፣ በህብረብሄራዊነታችን በደመቀ የላቀ አንድነት፣ በተጡዋጧፈ ልማት ትጓዛለች፤ አገር የሚበትነውን ጭራቅ ታዲያ ምን በላው!?

ሲጀመር አገር ሊበተን ነው አንድነታችን ሊበረዝ ነው የሚለው ስብከት በተቃዋሚዎቹ ህሊና የተሳለ እና ለአንድነቱና ለአገሩ ደህንነት ትልቅ ግምት የሚሰጠውን ህዝብ ለማስቆጣት የተፈጠረ ነጭ ውሸት ካልሆነ በቀር፡፡ ባወሩት ቁጥር የበለጠ ለራሳቸው እውነት እየመሳለቸው የመጣ ለሀያ አመት ካካናወነው የተሳካ ሀገራዊ ለወጥና መግባባትም በኋላ፤ አንዴ እንጂ ሁሌም ሊሸውዱት የማይችሉትን ህዝብ ቢያንስ በአደባባይ ፕሮፖጋንዳ መሆኑን ባይነግሩት እንኩዋ ጎበዝ ለዛሬው ሁኔታ እውነት የሚመስል ተረት እንፈልግለት አለማለታቸው የሚገባቸውን እንኳ መስራት ቢሳናቸው ፕሮፖጋንዳም ከወቅቱ ሁኔታ ጋር እያስተያዩ የመቅረጽ ስንፍና የተጸናወታቸው መሆኑን ያመላክታል፡፡

ቢያንስ ቢያንስ ህዝብ ይሰለቸናል አዲስ ወሬ እንፍጠርለት እኮ ይባላል፤ የሞኝ ለቅሶ መልሶ መላልሶ ሆነብን እኮ፡፡ ይሄ የመሀይማን ስብስብ የተባለው ፓርቲ አለምን ያነጋገረ እድገት ሲፈጥር ቢያንስ እኛ ሙሁራኑ እንዴት አዲስና ተቀባይነቱ ከፍ ያለ አነጋጋሪ ርእሰ ነገር መፍጠር ይሳነናል ብሎ ስብሰባ ማካሄድና መገማገም ይገባቸው ነበር፡፡

ጭራቁ ኢህአዴግ ከሆነ ደግሞ በቃልም በመጻፍም የተከራከረበትን በተግባር ባስመዘገባቸው ውጤቶች በርግጥም ጭራቅ እንዳልሆነ አስመስክሩዋል ብቻ ሳይሆን አገሪቱን በአለም ላይ ፈጣን አመታዊ እድገት ከሚያስመዘግቡ አገሮች ተርታም አድርስዋታልና ቢያንስ መልአክ ባይሆን እንኳ የትጉሀንና የብልህ ሰዎች ድርጅት መሆኑንም አረጋግጧል፡፡ እናም ቢያንስ ለዛሬ እንደ ምርጫ ምልክቱ ንብ የሆነና ለአገራዊ እድገቱ በአጭሩ ታጥቆ እየሰራ ያለ ፓርቲ በመሆኑ ሌላ ከወቅቱ ሁኔታው አንጻር በደካማነት የሚያስከስሰው ታርጋ ይፈልጉለት የሚል እምነት አለኝ፡፡

በቀጣይ ጽሁፌ በኢትዮጵያ የፖለቲካ ጥያቄዎች ላይ ያሉኝን እይታዎች ይዤ ብቅ እላለሁ፡፡       

እንዲሁ እንዋደድ በምክንያት እንመን!!!

ግን ሲገባኝ ሰው መጠላት እንኩዋ ካለበት ስለ ስነምግባሩ ክፉነት እንጂ አቁዋሙ

ኢህአዴግን ለምን ይደግፉታል!?

ኢህአዴግ እጥረቶች እንዳሉበት በርካታ ወዳጆችና ተቃዋሚዎች ይናገራሉ! እውነት ነው:: አሸናፊ ጥንካሬውን ግን አያሳጡትም!!!

እጥረቶች እንዳሉበት እንረዳለን ችግሩ እነሱ ችግር የሚሉት ነው ወይስ ሌላ የሚለው እንደተጠበቀ ሆኖ የሰዎች ማህበር በመሆኑ እጥረቶች እንደሚኖሩበት ግልጽ ነውና::

ኢህአዴግን ወይም ሌላ የትኛውንም ፓርቲ የምንደግፈው ስህተት ሰለማይሰራ ሳይሆን በመሰረታዊነት ርእዮተ አለሙ ፍልስፍናዎቹ ፖሊሲዎቹ እና የሚከተላቸው የማስፈጸምያ ስትራቴጂዎች በርግጥም ችግሩን ይፈታሉ ብለን ያመን እንደሆነ ነው:: እየደገፍን ያለነውም  ይህንኑ ስለምናምን ነው ማለት ነው::

በመሆኑም ፓርቲዎች መመዘን ያለባቸው አገራዊ ችግሮችን ጠንቅቆ መረዳት፣ መፍትሄዎቻቸውን መለየት፣ የሚፈጸሙበት ስትራቴጂ መተለም እና ያን በቁርጠኝነት መተግበር በመቻል አለመቻላቸው ነው:: ባለፉት 20 አመታት ኢህአዴግ በቅጡ ባልዳበረ ልማታዊ አቅም፣ በደካማ ፋይናንስ እና ከውጭም ከውስጥም ይካሄድ በነበረ የሰላ የርእዮተ አለም ተቃውሞ መሀከል በተለይ ባለፉት አስር አመታት አገሪቱ ያስመዘገበችው ውጤት በርግጥም ኢህአዴግ አገራዊ ችግሮቻችንን በተሳካ መንገድ መፍታት የሚችል ፓርቲ መሆኑን ያመላክታል::

አንዳንዴ አንዳንድ አስተያየቶች ሲሰጡ እንዴት ይህን አይነት ስህተት የሚሰራ ፓርቲ ትደግፋላችሁ የሚል አይነት  አንድምታ አላቸው:: እስከሚገባኝ ድረስ አባላቱም ይሁኑ ደጋፊዎቹ ፓርቲው መፍትሄ ማስገኘት እና መምራት የሚችል መሆኑን አይተው እንጂ እጥረቶች የሌሉበት ስለሆነ ነው የሚል የዋህ እምነት የለኝም::

ያም ሆኖ በባህሪው የሰዎች ማህበር በመሆኑ ከሚታዩበት እጥረቶች ባለፈ ሲመዘን የህዝብ ወገንተኝነት የተላበሰ፣ ለህዝብ ጥቅም መስዋእትነት እየከፈለ የመጣ፣ ብቁ ፖሊሲዎች የቀረጸ እና በአግባቡ ፖሊሲዎቹን በመተግበር አንጸባራቂ ድሎችን ማጣጣም የቻለ ፓርቲ መሆኑን የሚገመግም  የመፍትሄ ፓርቲ የለውጥ እና የውጤት አጋር መሆኑን መረዳት ይቻላል::

ህዝቡም ለፓርቲው ድጋፉን ሲሰጥ በየምርጫው ካርዱን ሲያበረክት እጥረት የሌለበትን ፓርቲ እየመረጠ አደለም:: ያም ሆኖ የላቀ ብቃትና የመሪነት ሚና ያለውን ፓርቲ እየመረጠ መሆኑን ግን ይገነዘባል:: በኢህአዴግ ደረጃ አገራዊ ችግሮቹን እና መፍትሄዎቹን  ቀይሶ ያን መተግበር የሚችል አቅም አጎልብቶ የሚገኝ እዚህ ግባ የሚባል ፓርቲ እንደሌለም ይረዳል::

ፓርቲው ላለፉት ሀያ አመታት የሰራቸው ዝርዝር ስራዎች አደሉም የሚያጓጉት:: ይሉቁንም በሚቀጥሉት አስርት አመታት እንደሚመዘገቡ የሚጠበቁት ዉጤቶች እንጂ::  እኚህ ደግሞ በወጉ እና በላቀ ጥንቃቄ ከተቀመሩት ፖሊሲዎችና ባለፉት አስር አመታት ከታዩት አንጸባራቂ ድሎች የሚመነጩ ናቸው:: በትንሹ እንኩዋ ባለፉት ዘጠኝ አመታት ባለ 10.6 በመቶ እድግት አገራችን ማስመዝገቡዋ በአለማቀፍ ተቁዋማት መታመኑን መጥቀስ ይቻላል::

አገሪቱ አህጉራዊና አለማቀፋዊ ተሰሚነቱዋ እንዲያድግና የፖሊሲ ነጻነቱዋን እንድታሰጠብቅ የተደረገው ጥረት አይነኬዎቹ ለምሳሌ የአባይ ግድብ ጉዳይ መቁዋጫ የተበጀለት መሆኑ ኢህአዴግ እንደ ፓርቲ ይቻላልን በህዝቡ ውስጥ በማስረጽ የላቀ የሀብት ፈጠራ መንፈስን ያቀጣጠለ ድርጅት መሆኑን ያስመሰክራል::

የእጥረቶችን መኖር ስለሚገነዘብም ነው ፓርቲው በመደበኛነት ግምገማ የሚያካሂደው:: አንዱ ጥንካሬው እንደውም እትረቶቹን በራስ ተነሳሽነት ገምግሞ የእርምት ርምጃ የሚወስድ መሆኑ ነው::

ገለጻው ኢህአዴግ ለማደግ የሚደረገውን ጦርነት በአሸናፊነት እንደሚወጣው የሚያሳይ እንጂ በያንዳንዱ አውደ ውጊያ ሳይቆስል ለድል የበቃ መሆኑን አያትትም:: በቁምነገሩ ግን አሸናፊ ፓርቲ ነው:: ቁስለትና እጥረቶች ከትልቅ አገራዊ ተጋድሎዎቹ ዘወር እንደማያደርጉት በላቀ ቁርጠኝነትና ውጤት ያስመሰከረ ነውና:: የልማትና የሰላም ተጋድሎዎቹ አይን የማይነቀልባቸው ተግባሮቹ መሆናቸውን በቃል ሳይሆን በተግባር አትሟቸዋልና ::

እናም ሲጠቃለል ኢህአዴግ የሚደገፈው እጥረቶች ስለሌሉት ሳይሆን የመፍትሄው መሪ የመፍትሄው ቁልፍ ክፍል በመሆኑና ለምንናፍቀው የልማት እና የእድገት ድል የላቀው አማራጭ በመሆኑ ነው:: 

Bored of Opposition, Election in Ethiopia

Every election year, Ethiopian opposition parties seem to have a habit of making pacts to cooperate, though their pacts doesn't last long after the elections. Here and there, they make coalitions to go against the incumbent EPRDF.

Every election year one most accustomed claim of theirs is that the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia is incompetent to handle the process. They also say they don't believe the board and the courts to be impartial. Therefore, "we are gonna boycott" the election is their usual poster for elections so far.

They appear to pin the fate of this country to their participation as if their participation is the magic wand to make the democratic process credible. What at best it indicates is that they are ill-prepared and not visionary enough to design the best in their power to deliver tangible solutions to formidable problems like poverty and backwardness. 

Every matured democracy can have credible concerns for fraud in elections let alone a growing infant democracy like ours. The recent electoral contest between Barack Obama and his Republican Challenger Mitt Romney is a case in point. 

There were fraudster concerns in Florida and Ohio at the least in the run-up to the election and the voting day. But what they do is deploy lawyers to try and make sure things go as fairly as possible. Despite that, both parties election campaigns were busy trying to lure votes to their favour.

Here every time election comes around, the game for the opposition is one and the same: "we know EPRDF is gonna rig the elections, and we are not gonna take part." They are a compete disgrace to the political process in the country. 

While it is up to them to work to mobilize the public and negotiate with the ruling EPRDF on possible shortcomings to make sure the elections happen in the most possible open and fair manners, they tend to play the victim role by crying wolf every time elections happen.

I am't delusional to say there are not electoral fraud concerns but in no way those concerns can turn a real democratic force to take part in an election. 

This is because every process has its significance in shaping our democracy of the future. Elections are not fair just because the opposition win the votes. They are fair and democratic if they are open and fair all through the process.

It seems to me that our opposition are stuck in issues of the past. If not, at least they are not good enough to negotiate and increase their leverage to manage successful elections that matter to the democratization of the country if not at best to unseat the incumbent. 

What I see is the opposition in our country doesn't happen to be forces for solutions. They are just good enough to narrate problems here and there like any layman than studying the underlining causes of the national problems with their possible solutions.

I think this time around, the opposition need a new card to play with as we feel bored to be bombarded with the same complaints that the elections process is gonna be rigged,  the electoral board is incompetent and the courts are impartial. New trick at least if not genuine civilized politics!     

ሙሰኞች ይውደሙ!? በቀረርቶ ወይስ በተግባር?

ሙሰኞች እና ሙስና የሚጎዳን መሆኑን እናውቃለን ግን እነሱ ለመስረቅ የሚተጉትን ያክል ለመታገል የሚተጉ አይታዩም

ሙሰኞች ይውደሙ ይጥፋልን -  እንራገማለን:: ሳይገባቸውም (ጠብቆም ሊነበብ ይችላል) መስረቅ ሽተው በአጭር መክበር አማሎዋቸው የበርካቶችን ስራ የማግኝት እና የመማር እድል የሚሰብሩ:: ሀብት የማፍራት ስራ የመፍጠር እና አገር የማገዝ ህልም ኖሮዋቸው የሚውተረተሩ ጎበዞችን የሚያንከራትቱ አላስፈላጊ ወጪ የሚያሶጡ ሌቦች በየግዜው ሲያዙም ያልተያዙትም በማስረጃ የሚያዙበት ቀን እስኪመጣ አክሳሪና አሳፋሪ ተግባራቸው በወሬ ሲነሳ እንሰማለን::

ሙሰኞች ከንቱዎች አሳማዎች ናቸው ማለት ግን ችግሩን የሚቀርፈው አይሆንም::

ሙሰኞች ገንዘብ ያስገኝ እንጂ በሌሎች ሞትም ቢሆን ከመክበር ወደሁዋላ የሚሉ አለመሆኑ መታወቅ አለበት:: ርህራሄ ያለመደ ባህሪያቸው ለሰው የሚገባውን ክብር የማይሰጥ ብቻ ሳይሆን ክቡሩን ሰው በመጉዳትም ጭምር ከመጠቀም ወደሁዋላ የማይል ነው:: በመሆኑም ሁሉም አማራጭ ለሙሰኞች ብሩን እስካመጣ መንገድ መሆኑን ይረዱዋል:: ለተራቡ ሰዎች የሚመጣን እህል ከመስረቅ በላይ የሚሆን አረመኔነት የለምና::

እናም ሲገባኝ ሌቦቹ ቁርጠኞች ናቸው:: የሙስናው ተቃዋሚዎች ግን በአመዛኙ በሰሞንኛ ወሬ ችግሩ የሚፈታ የሚመስለን የዋሀን ቢጤ ነን ወይም ደግሞ ሙስና ይውደም በሚል መፈክርና ርግማን አለያም በማያባራ የወቀሳ ጋጋታ የሚታረም ይመስለናል::

ተደብቀው የሚሰሩትን የሚያጋልጥ ማስረጃ የማይቁዋረጥ ክትትል አሰራሮችን የማሻሻል እና ለሌብነት ክፍተት የሚተው  አሰራሮችን እየደፈን መሄድ ይኖርብናል::

ለነፍስም ቢሆን ርህራሄ የሌለውን ሙሰኛ ተምሮ እና ስነምግባሩን አስተካክሎ እስካልመጣ ድረስ አንገት ላንገት ተናንቆ እንጂ በሰሞነኛ ርግማን ለመፍታት ማሰብ ወፈፌ የመሆን ያክል ይመስለኛል::

ሙሰኞች እንደ ጎልያድ ሊደልቡ እና ስባታቸው ሊያስፈራን ይችላል:: ቁምነገሩ ደፈር ብሎ የዳዊትን ጠጠር መጣል አለመጣሉ ነው::
ብዙ ግዜ ዳዊት የታለ? ማን ዳዊት ሆኖ ይታደገን? እያልን ስናላዝን ነው እነጎልያድ ይበልጥ እየሰቡ የሚሄዱት:: ፈረንጆቹ ለክፉዎቹ መንሰራፋት የመልካሞቹ አለመስራት ነው ምክንያቱ እንደሚሉት::

ቁምነገሩ ዳዊትን ራሱን ሆነን መገኘት ነው አለመስረቅ በአግባቡ በጎቻችንን መጥበቅ:: እነጎልያድ መንጋውን ሲያምሱት ደግሞ ጠጠራችንን አልሞ መጣል::

ዳዊትን ሻማ አብርቶ በቀን መፈለግ ሳይሆን የዳዊትን ባህሪ የተላበስ መልካም እረኛ አድርገን ራሳችንን መቅረጽ ነው መሰረታዊው ነገር::  ለጥቆ ዳዊቶቹን ማብዛት ይከተላል እነዳዊት በበዙበት ጎልያዶች ቦታ ስለማይኖራቸው::

የዳዊት ክብርና ሞገስ የደመቀው እና ለንግስና ያሳጨው  የጎልያድን ተግዳሮት በስኬት ሲወጣው ነው:: እኛም አገር መውዳዳችን እና ክብራችን እየደመቀ የሚሄደው ከፊታችን የተደቀኑ አገራዊ: ተቁዋማዊ እና ግለሰባዊ ችግሮችን በተሳኩ መንገዶች መፍታት ስንችል መሆኑ አያወያይም::

ሀቁ ይሄ ከሆነ ቁምነገሩ ችግሮቹን እና ፈጻሚዎቹን የመጥላት የማንቁዋሸሽ የማጣጣል አደለም የበላን ቦታ ላይ የሚያክ በርግጥም ችግሩን መፍታት የሚያስችሉ አሰራሮችን መዘርጋት እና ሌብነትን የሚጸየፍ እሴት መፍጠር ነው::

ርግማን እና ማጣጣል ንዶት የሚያውቀው የችግር ተራራ የለም:: ተግባር ግን ስንት ስኬቶች አስመዝግቡዋል::

አሸናፊ አባባሎች

በፉከራ በቀረርቶ ወይም በስራ አልባ ህልም ተፈጥሮ አትረታም::
የታለመ ተግባር ግን የማይቁዋረጥ ስራ ግን ያንበረክካታል::
አሸናፊ መሆን የሚሹ ኢላማቸውን ይሰሩታል ይኖሩታል!!

በማንኛዉም አንድ ጉዳይ ላይ ከሁሉም ጋር ለመግባባት የሚሹ ሰዎች
እብዶች ናቸው
በሁሉም ነገር ከሁሉም የሚለይ እና በሁሉም ነገር ከሌሎች ጋር የሚመስል
ሲጀመር እብድ ነውና
ብልሆች ህጋዊ በሆነና ባመኑበት ጉዳይ ይሰሩበታል
የሚስማሙትንም የማይስማሙትንም አክብረው!!!

መሆን የምትፈልገውን አትቅጠር ዛሬ ላይ ሁነው አድርገው
አለም ለይሉኝታህ ግድ የላትም

Implications of World Bank Economic Report for Ethiopia

The World Bank Report illuminates the outstanding performance of Ethiopian economy over the last nine years since 2004. It shows Ethiopia has a lion economy in Africa propelling at a pace the East Asian tigers have done.

Nine Years of Epic Economic Feat

The World Bank Report says “Ethiopia has experienced strong and generally broad-based real economic growth of around 10.6% on average since 2004 - 2011.”

Thursday (13 October 2012) saw the launching of the World Bank Report on Ethiopia’s Economy at the Sheraton Addis.

Most often some try and contest Ethiopia’s annual growth report assuming the government may cook data to portray exaggerated picture of the reality. Yet, no credible international institution has denied the fast powering economy of the country.

Here is another testimony by the World Bank that illuminates the strong showing of the state of the economy for a little less than a decade: “The growth over the last nine years,” the report read, “was far beyond the growth rates recorded in aggregate terms for Sub-Saharan Africa, which is 5.2% - less than half of Ethiopia’s average real GDP growth rate during that period.” It seems currently Ethiopia is the increasingly growing, non-oil tiger economy in Africa.

The report indicates Ethiopia’s growth appears to have been inspired by the East Asian experiences namely those of countries like China, Korea and Taiwan. It is reported to have been induced by a mix of factors: agricultural modernization, the development of the export sectors, strong global commodity demand, and government-led development investments, among others.

Growth is estimated to likely stay around that remarkable margin up until 2016.

Poverty Reduced by 9.1%

The growth over the 5 years spanning from 2004/5 to 2009/10 has lifted around 2.5 million citizens out of poverty, thereby bringing down people under the poverty line from 38.7% to 29.6%, which is a 9.1% decrease.

The report further estimates, given inflation kept tamed, Ethiopia is highly likely to make its target of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) reducing the poverty by another 7.4%.

The national poverty line here is less than US$0.6 per day. The report suggests it is so important for Ethiopia to take the inflation down to maintain the hard-won reduction in poverty.

Export on the Rise

The World Bank Report appreciates the country’s strategy of increasing exports to facilitate growth as it is the development pattern of recently successful countries particularly in East Asia. Ethiopia’s export products showed growth of 14.8% in 2011/12.

Boosting the export sector is appropriate, the report noted, given the current limited size of the country’s domestic market.  Considering the composition of the export by commodity, still coffee continues to be the largest export while Gold closely follows behind. Despite recent decline in volume of coffee export, trends suggest it will rebound. Ethiopia is also diversifying its export with rising sale of oil seeds, flowers, live animals, fruits and vegetables.

The growth in export of goods, the report says, is to a good extent driven by volume growth across a variety of product groups which is a result of recent efforts to increase and diversify the export base.

However, the increase in annual import goods by 33.5% in 2011/12 alone indicates the overall import/export development resulted in a significantly bigger trade deficit, which stood at 7.9 billion US Dollars in 2010/11.

Inflation Still a Threat

Though headline inflation rate in October 2012 was 15.8%, it was over 33% in 2011. Currently inflation is declining slowly.

The reduction in inflation, according to the World Bank Report, is down to the tightening fiscal stance and monetary base growth induced by the government of Ethiopia.

The hope is, in spite of its persistence, inflation will remain in a descending trend.    

Ethiopia’s Economic Growth vis-à-vis China, South Korea

The World Bank Report shows interesting comparisons of Ethiopian development experience to China and Korea which depicts Ethiopia is well on track. Yet, the country has to significantly boost its domestic savings and exports performance while keeping inflation down to single digit.

Although there are few peculiarities between them, by and large, Ethiopian economy is following the two fast tracking economies-the Republic of China and South Korea.

Based on policies observed in China in the 1990s, the comparison depicts, there are a series of “quick-wins” that could be used to increase the potential for FDI inflows into Ethiopia.

According to the Report, Ethiopia’s fiscal performance appears to be adequate given the current state of the economy and financing requirements for development.

 Opportunities for more growth

The current state of the economy is a plus for investment in Ethiopia. Besides the strong political stability and investment incentives are luring. Yet still there are rooms for improvement to become a major destination of global investment.

The cheap abundant labour, the size of the population and cheap electric power are some of the appeals to FDI and massive local investment, given the government sorts out some logistic doldrums that somehow hampers the progress.

The impressive annual economic growth that endures for nearly a decade is another incentive to bring in much-needed FDI in a way it further fuels the already fast-paced economic development.

No doubt, I assume, if the country sustains this growth momentum for a couple of decades, Ethiopia will become a shining gem in the horn of Africa.

Challenges of the Economy

Among the challenges the World Bank Report surfaced, one is the poor saving rate of the country.

The Report says “Even though Ethiopia achieved high income growth it is striking that the country has not reached the subsistence level beyond which people start to save in earnest.” Therefore, it is essential to considerably increase the domestic saving.

The other challenge is the logistics problems that most often complicate things for investors. Indeed, the World Bank Report and investors attending the launching of the report admired the incentives Ethiopia has offered. Yet they see a number of gaps specially related with customs regulations and other logistic matters.

One such example is the cost of shipping from china to Djibouti and the cost of shipping from Djibouti to Addis Ababa is the same which is odd given the big disparity in distance. Participating investors asked the government to fill in the gaps so that the investment climate for both domestic and foreign companies will be much smoother.
